Messaging buyers and sellers safely

1 MIN READ ยท UPDATED 1 AUG 2026

In-app messaging is the safest way to arrange a sale, here's how it works and how to use it well.

Starting a conversation

Select Message seller on any listing. Your first message goes directly to the seller, and any reply appears in your Messages inbox, along with the listing it relates to.

Keeping messages on UK Junction

Keep the whole conversation in UK Junction messaging rather than moving to text, WhatsApp, or email. It keeps a record of what was agreed, and means our Trust & Safety team can help if something goes wrong.

Be cautious if someone you've just started talking to insists on moving off-platform immediately, especially before you've agreed any details, it's a common pattern in scam attempts.

What sellers and buyers can see

The other person in a conversation can see your display name and messages, but not your email address, phone number, or exact location unless you choose to share it. See our Privacy Policy for details.

If a conversation feels wrong

Open the listing the conversation relates to (the chip at the top of the conversation links to it) and select Report this listing if a message is abusive, fraudulent, or breaches our rules. See Recognising and avoiding common scams for warning signs to look out for.
